Marvel Sketch Cards!

As part of my continuing efforts to have a real career as an artist, I fired off a submission to do Marvel Sketch cards a couple of weeks ago ... and lo and behold, I got in!  So I'll be churning out a ton of Marvel sketches here in the next little while.  Woo!  The pay's not great, but who cares?  It's the cachet (if that's the word I want) (yes it is) of having done work for Marvel comics, of all people!

Now I've just gotta finish drawing some comic pages, polish up my demo reel, apply for some more jobs, cross my fingers, and ... guys, I'm excited about where things are going!

Congrats on getting in, I can't wait to see yours!

Will you be seeing Wall-E when it comes out this Friday?

Oh heck yeah! Actually one of my buddies from animation school is coming into town on Saturday and we're gonna go together. I'm totally excited about this one! Are you?

I've heard that it's been getting outrageously good reviews, so I'm hoping it lives up to what I've heard. Becca and I are probably going to try and catch an early showing so we don't have to pay ten bucks for a ticket on Friday.

I for one welcome our new, adorable robot overlords.

Congratulations! I second the whole "can't wait to see your work!" thing. :D

Good luck on your other job applying-nessing.

Hey: just read this from another card artist, and thought you might want to have this information. Not to scare you, but to keep you informed.

I think it's great for your resume, that's for sure. But the art itself... well, you do commission work already so you know not to fall in love too much with your originals, but this was an eye opener.

Huh. I had no idea any of that was going on.

She's (at least, I assume it's a she?) right about one thing--the pay is quite low. I decided to do a very small batch of cards (only 50) even before I read this, for a couple of reasons:

1) I don't care about the money
2) I'm cursed slow, so any more than that would stress me out unduly, especially since
3) I'm already working full-time on top of any freelance I do, which is why
4) see #1. ;D

Haha, maybe I'll do all my drawings in marker, so the hacks can't erase them and resell the cards! That'd show 'em.

I'm also going to make scans of the cards before I send back the originals, of course--that way, at least I have proof of what I did! I can't imagine any cards I do would sell for very high prices on auction sites, since I'm a completely unknown artist...

Hurr, anyway, that was a long comment, but basically thanks for the heads-up! I shouldn't be surprised at the stupid thoughtless self-serving dishonest things people get up to, but somehow, I always am...

Eeeee, I can't wait to see them! I just took a look at your DA . . . wow is all I can say. *__*

^___^ Gosh, thanks!

(Here's hoping those blank cards show up in the mail soon...)
